Dress code

Wear dancing shoes and whatever makes you feel joyful!

The hall requests no stiletto shoes or black soled shoes that mark the floor please. Be aware the short ceremony will be outside in woodland 5 minutes’ walk away over uneven ground. The woods may be a little muddy!

What is a ceilidh?

If you’ve never experienced a ceilidh (pronounced ‘Kaylee’) dance before, now’s the time, you lucky thing. A ceilidh is a traditionally Irish or Scottish group dance where a “caller” explains the dance moves before going for it to live music. Mistakes are made, strangers swing each other around the dance floor. Lovely Jubbly. To give you an idea: ceilidhtree.co.uk/#HomeWatch

Bring Your Own Bottle(s)

There will be wine, beer, water and some soft drinks served at the meal. Beak Brewery will be selling their delicious ales and a small range of soft drinks at the bar in the evening. Feel free to BYOB if there’s anything else you like to drink, or if you’d like to share anything with friends.

If you’re staying for the weekend

Jack in the Green, Hastings Old Town

May Day celebration and Hastings institution. Activities and performances all weekend mostly around Hastings Old Town, but the main event is the huge procession on Bank Holiday Monday at 10am-ish. Traffic and parking in Hastings will be challenging, we recommend getting public transport/taxi/walking in. Phone signal will be sketchy. Crowds will be large. Get your green on.

We’ll update this nearer the time to share any other weekend plans you’re welcome to join.
